What is Project Cornerstone?

Project Cornerstone is a community initiative of the YMCA of Silicon Valley that works with more than 400 schools and community partners to change the personal behavior of adults, strengthen programs that serve youth, and impact public policy.

Asset Building Champions (ABC) is Project Cornerstone’s literature-based program addressing important issues like respect, tolerance, honesty, peaceful conflict resolution, taking a stand against bullying behaviors, and refusing to participate in gossip. Volunteers are trained in the developmental assets model for positive youth development, and prepared to read a specially selected children’s book and lead related activities and discussions that help teach valuable lessons related to these issues each month.

Thanks to all of our parent volunteers, our students have learned valuable life-skills that they can use in the classroom, on the playground, and at home. Creating a common language and a “tool belt” of strategies for identifying, naming and resolving issues has empowered students to resolve more of their own issues and has made it easier for teachers to address issues when they do come up.

Math Olympiad at Millbrook is now accepting registrations for the year 2024–2025 through this Google form.

To be eligible for registration, students must be in grades 3-6 attending Millbrook Elementary for School year 2024-2025. Acceptance in the program is based on an online evaluation test on Wednesday, October 16th, 6pm-6:15pm. We will send out the zoom link for the registered students for online tests by Oct 15th.

Students from 2023-2024 Math Olympiad Team DO NOT need to take the admission test on Oct 16th. They are automatically accepted into the team this year. However, returning students are still required to fill out this Google form and pay the $50 fee to show that you want to continue in the program and for us to know the number of spots available to the new students. Payment is NOT due during registration and a payment link will be sent to returning students after Oct 16th and the payment is due on Oct 22nd. The first Math Olympiad class will be on October 23rd.
Students selected to be part of the program will meet on scheduled sessions weekly for Math Olympiad Preparatory Classes on Wednesday from 6PM – 7PM, through online classes. They will participate in 5 online contests from November to March. The program will run from October until all the contests are done. The cost is $50 per student for the entire program. The payment is towards Millbrook PTA and is used to cover the Math Olympiad registration cost, logistics and cost of prizes. As always, the Math Olympiad coaches are parent and/or student volunteers and do NOT get paid. In order to make this program accessible to everyone, we also offer hardship scholarships as an alternative to payment. These are granted per approved request by Millbrook PTA. They would fully cover the cost of registration for your child. In order to receive a hardship scholarship, please contact the Math Olympiad teacher @ mo.millbrook@gmail.com to discuss your particular situation.

Reach out to mo.millbrook@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering.

Last day for Math Olympiad registration is Oct 11th.

We had such a great turnout with our Virtual Spelling Bee last year that we're bringing it back again this year! The Millbrook Spelling Bee is open to ALL Millbrook students from K to 6th grade. The registration fee is only $5!

We will again be using The Scripps National Spelling Bee online testing platform that will allow Millbrook to host our school spelling bee program remotely. In place of our traditional spelling bee program, we will hold two levels of competition through online spelling tests--the first competition is by grade level, and then the winners of each grade level will continue onto the school wide competition.

Registration will begin in November, so please keep an eye out for the announcement!
